Voices from Tobe at NC Collection Gallery/Wilson Library

  • North Carolina Collection Gallery 506 Wilson Library Chapel Hill, NC 27514

Tuesday, October 21 @ 5:00 pm: Where is Tobe? Unfolding Stories of Childhood, Race, and Rural Life in North Carolina. In the 1930s, few children’s books featured realistic depictions of African Americans. But Tobe, published by UNC Press in 1939 and based on the daily lives of children from Hillsborough and an African American community outside Greensboro, offered a more true-to-life portrayal. Program presented as part of the Click! Triangle Photography Festival, www.clicktrianglephoto.org
