The Ackland Museum Store is pleased to announce the opening of Leaving the Table: The Furniture of Bill Neville, an exhibition of new woodwork by the Chapel Hill craftsman.During the last 30 years, Bill Neville has become a master at producing functional interiors in wood and the objects which inhabit them. He has designed and built custom tables, chairs, case goods, as well as yacht interiors. Leaving the Table features four newly crafted tables which use the exotic veneer claro walnut burl as well as a series of mirrors and tall shelves in wenge and sycamore. The show will also include many large turned vessels in a variety of native and exotic woods and a large photo montage chronicling Bill’s career devoted to wood.Leaving the Table is quite literally the next step in Bill Neville’s process as an artist as he and his wife, the painter Betty Haskin, will be leaving Chapel Hill this spring to embark on an open-ended sabbatical, living and traveling in Europe.Leaving the Table opens on Friday, 14 February 2014, with a reception from 6:30-8:30 PM.The show will be on view through Sunday, 30 March 2014.
