The community is invited to celebrate Martha’s Day, a fundraiser supporting Compass Center for Women and Families, 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at DSI Comedy, located at 462 W. Franklin Street in downtown Chapel Hill. Martha’s Day is presented by Molly Maid of Chapel Hill.
“Martha’s Day is an opportunity for our community to celebrate the lives of domestic violence victims and survivors,” said Laura Morrison, Compass Center Board of Directors Vice Chair.
The event is named for Martha Pearson, a North Carolina native who lost her life to domestic violence in 1995.
“Martha’s Day will rally widespread support for Compass Center, which is doing invaluable work for our community,” Morrison said. Since July 2014, Compass Center has served more than 1,000 clients seeking domestic violence support and resources. Recently, Compass Center was named Non-Profit of the Year at the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce’s 2015 Business Excellence Awards.
Compass Center helps individuals and families become self-sufficient through career and financial education, assistance with legal resources, and adolescent empowerment programs, and the organization also works to prevent and end domestic violence in Orange and surrounding counties in North Carolina, through education and crisis services.
Tickets to Martha’s Day are $20 and include entertainment from DSI Comedy and a catered reception with food from Vimala’s Curryblossom Café, Jersey Mike’s of Chapel Hill, and Chapel Hill Restaurant Group.
