West End and Northside Community
Starts at the Hargraves Recreation Center
Between Chapel Hill and Carrboro, African Americans created a large community during Reconstruction. The community was home to many successful educators, entrepreneurs, and leaders. During the Civil Rights Movement, this community played an important role in the desegregation of Chapel Hill.
All walking tours are $5 (sales tax included) per person and last approximately 60 to 90 minutes.
Please dress appropriately for the weather and uneven ground. If it is raining at a tour's scheduled start time, it will be cancelled.
