UNBOUND, s a 'digital memory library' of Chapel Hill itself, will be unveiled at a public reception at the Chapel Hill Public Library at 7:00 pm on Friday, March 11. It's a piece very relevant to all of the downtown businesses because they helped make it, though they might not remember doing so. Artist Erik Carlson has been working on the piece for a full year. Last spring, he made a tour of downtown, snapping photos and making copies of mementos from all of the shops, restaurants and cultural landmarks in town. All of that material has been digitally preserved, and will live permanently in a piece of public art that will be on display at the library.
At the unveiling on Friday, March 11 at 7:00 pm, there will be some remarks, some delicious refreshments, and plenty of time to check out the new piece which all of us helped create. The thousands of images in the piece are played in an infinite number of sequences, so you're never sure what you'll see.
