6th Annual Gala Off the Wall 2016 at FRANK Gallery

Only 55 Art Tickets will be sold, equal to the number of donated artworks, ensuring that each Art Ticket holder will take an original piece of work of art home directly Off the Wall. FRANK artists and other well-known area artists have donated 55 works of art to our 6th Annual Gala Celebration, each valued between $350 to $3,000 (or more)! During the event, excitement builds as the evening’s MC randomly draws names, and each lucky individual takes a turn to select a piece of his or her choosing.

  • Art Ticket holders participate in the OFF THE WALL drawing, a live auction, and the end of the evening raffle. Every Art Ticket holder can add on a companion to join them for the evening.
  • Companion Tickets can be purchased to accompany an Art Ticket holder. Companions do not receive a piece of artwork from the wall, but are invited to enjoy the festivities, participate in the live auction, and will be entered into our final raffle for special prizes which will take place at the end of the evening.
  • Patron Tickets will be available again this year; one of these tickets admits two to the event. Patron Ticket Holders can join in the celebration, bid in the live auction, and will be entered into our final raffle drawings.  Patron ticket holders do not receive a piece of artwork from the wall.

Donated artwork will be on display before the fundraiser, beginning Tuesday, March  29th at FRANK.

Sandwich is really excited to tell you about something that they have going on for ten days in February. Between February 12-21, we'll be donating a percentage of our sales to the Be Loud! Sophie Foundation.

The mission behind Be Loud! Sophie Foundation is to support adolescent and young adult cancer patients and their families at UNC Hospitals. But Be Loud! Sophie Foundation is so much more than that. Read about their mission here.

Sophie Steiner, for whom the organization is named, was a visionary photographer, dancer, and writer long before she received the cancer diagnosis that changed, and ultimately ended, her life. At age 13, a year before she became ill, she wrote a poem called, "Be Loud." Here's an excerpt:

...Be loud
And move with grace
Explode with light
Have no fear...

Here's one of Sophie's amazing photos (above). When you come to the restaurant over the next 10 days, you'll notice Sophie's photos all over our walls. I'm so excited about that! They are gorgeous.

Here's one of Sophie's amazing photos (above). When you come to the restaurant over the next 10 days, you'll notice Sophie's photos all over our walls. I'm so excited about that! They are gorgeous.

By focusing specifically on adolescents and young adults, Be Loud! Sophie Foundation is raising awareness about the unique needs of this age group. Janet, from Sandwhich, has known the Steiners for many years and she is thrilled to invite you to join hands with Sandwhich in supporting this wonderful organization.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

  1. Eat at Sandwhich Feb 12 - 21. Online, and call-in orders count too! (Sorry, delivery orders are not included).
  2. Spread the word! Share this message, and share a link to the Be Loud! Sophie Foundation website (www.beloudsophie.org).
  3. Make an individual donation! Look for more info and a donation bucket at our front desk.

Live performance by the RURAL ACADEMY THEATER at 140 West Plaza

Live performance by the RURAL ACADEMY THEATER

Thursday, 15 October 2015, 7:30 PM
The Plaza at 140 W. Franklin Street
Downtown Chapel Hill

The Ackland Art Museum, in collaboration with the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership and the Town of Chapel Hill, is thrilled to welcome The Rural Academy Theater as it clip-clops its way into our town!

The Rural Academy Theater is a collaboration of individuals―both two-legged and four-legged―creating theater for primarily rural audiences in response to the growing urbanization of our culture, economy, food, education, media, and art.

Rural Academy Theater’s annual horse-pulled tour brings performers, musicians, sculptors, and dancers to town greens, college campuses, riverbanks, and farms via horse-pulled wagon and bicycles. They perform evenings of original theater under the stars or clouds, using their wagon as their stage.

The 2015 Rural Academy Theater tour is a celebration of season and place. The performance opens with a modern skewing of the Persephone myth, while following the conversation of a small band of dinner guests joined for an annual meal. The show explores our ties to agrarian rhythms as well as our modern disassociation from them. The story springs to life through shadow puppetry, song, and physical theater.

The feature presentation will be followed by a screening of Buster Keaton’s 1922 silent film Cops, accompanied live by The Rural Academy Orchestra.

Suggested donation: $5-$10 for children; $10-$20 for adults. Please bring your own blankets and chairs to sit on!
