Away and Back Again: Community Art Project

Exhibition on Display from November 16 to December 18

With the help of Durham recycle artist Bryant Holsenbeck, the community is invited to participate in the creation of a large mandala on the floor of the FedEx Global Education Center. Made from bottle caps and other items collected by the Global Cup Café (housed within the Global Education Center) and the artist, the mandala will be a large, visible representation of items recycled and those destined for the landfill. Also on display will be window art made by UNC students out of recycled materials. These students collected items during their service and research projects abroad and will turn them into pieces of art. Once a month Kidzu hosts a free bilingual storytime filled with interactive and educational activities games & stories and a fun craft project too. Presented in Spanish and English for children ages 2 to 8 with an adult.

Family Fun Tours at the Ackland!

From a thousand year-old Indian sculpture of a dancing elephant to Do-Ho Suh's contemporary sculpture Floor (made for viewers to walk upon), the Ackland is filled with art that will fascinate and inspire even the youngest visitor. Explore these works and more on a Family Fun Tour at the Ackland. These interactive gallery tours are led by Ackland educators and are designed for six- to twelve-year-olds and their families. Family Fun Tours are the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon with your children.

Downriver -The  UNC Process Series

Downriver, a screenplay by Dana Coen, follows 88 year old bluesman Lemonhead Harris as he escapes his flooded home on an inflatable mattress, he rides the swollen Mississippi down through the Delta and into his inglorious past, a journey into the heart of the blues.  Now in its second season, the UNC Process series gives performing artists the opportunity to develop and stage unfinished works, to gain from directorial and audience feedback as the work develops.  All performances in The Process Series are general admission and are free and open to the public. Join the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership in kicking off the holiday season by celebrating the lighting of the 22' tall Community Tree in the Memorial Garden of University Baptist Church. Enjoy the sounds of the church choir and handbell choir! Don't forget your camera - children can meet Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus and have their pictures taken for free! The community tree will stay up through the holiday season. FREE Saturday Parking This Holiday Season! 
Parking is always FREE on Sundays in Downtown Chapel Hill, but this holiday season parking will be FREE on Saturdays as well! The Town of Chapel Hill will be offering downtown patrons and visitors FREE parking on Saturdays in December at all municipal lots, the Wallace parking deck, and at on-street meters. At 5:00 PM on Saturdays, the Wallace Deck and Rosemary/Columbia Lot will begin charging at their normal rate.
West End Valet Parking is FREE! West End Logo
 
Spend the evening on the West End and take advantage of FREE Valet Parking six nights a week! Monday through Saturday - 5:00pm to 11:00pm. Courtesy Valet Parking is provided to patrons of participating businesses with a validated parking receipt. Downtown visitors enjoying other establishments can also use the valet service for a $5.00 charge. Drop cars off at the Valet Parking stand located in front of the UNC Information Technology building (440 West Franklin Street), near the West End Wine Bar.
