Book Fairy Book Drive for Pediatric Patients at UNC
Children undergoing cancer treatment will find comfort in new books thanks to a book drive on the UNC campus that runs now until Friday, December 10th. Several UNC departments and organizations are sponsoring the drive on behalf of the Book Fairy, an organization that donates children's books to the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at UNC Hospitals. All new or gently-used books for ages one through mid-teen are welcome. The need is especially great for Spanish-language books at the preschool level and picture books or easy readers in English. LUNAFEST at Varsity Theater
LUNAFEST connects women through film in a traveling festival of short films by, for and about women. Organized by Team LUNAChix, LUNAFEST will be held on Thursday, November 11 at 6:30 PM, and will feature an hors d'oeuvres reception, a silent auction and a raffle. Guests will also hear from community leaders in the cancer field and cancer survivors will share their inspiring stories.  100% of the proceeds from the event will benefit the the North Carolina Cancer Hospital and The Breast Cancer Fund. 2010-2011 Carolina Basketball Season is Here!

This Thanksgiving season the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service (IFC) aims to raise $21,000 to provide 840 Holiday meals to local households who are struggling in this economy. 2nd Friday ArtWalk Offers FREE Trolley Service
Friday, November 12 - 6PM to 9PM 
The 2nd Friday ArtWalk allows for art lovers to patronize dozens of Chapel Hill and Carrboro businesses as they host live music & performances, food, and drinks; all while featuring art in its many forms. Admission is free and open to the public.
The monthly event now has a continuous, two trolley route beginning at the ArtsCenter in Carrboro and running on Franklin Street to Boundary Street in Chapel Hill and back, stopping at various spots along the way.  The trolleys are designed to provide greater connectivity and comfortable, nostalgic transportation along Franklin and Main Streets in the heart of Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Celebrate the Artery's First Anniversary
To celebrate a successful first year, the Student Artery will host an opening of a new exhibit - "Two Point Oh" on Friday, November 12 from 5PM to 11:30PM. Featured artist, Kal Fadem will present his body of work "Tools". Other artists this month include Molly Brewer, Mia Drabik, Adam Graetz, Matt Jones, Peter Pendergrass, and many more. Tarot Art Show at Nightlight Club
The Tarot Art Show on Friday, November 12 from 5PM to 9PM, is a mixed media group art show featuring a collective of local artists, each of whom has received a randomly assigned card from the Major Arcana as inspiration to create an artwork in whatever medium they choose. With no restrictions aside from time and space, more than 23 artists will showcase their talents, using such forms as video, photography, and painting. Helicopter Fly-Over of Kenan Stadium
Just prior to kickoff, UNC continues the tradition of football fly-overs as two Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters will fly over Kenan Stadium.  On Friday, November 12, the helicopters will do practice runs over the stadium between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Of course, bad weather or aircraft schedule changes could affect the flight plans for Friday and Saturday. Captain Joe Elseroad, a 2003 Carolina alumnus and veteran of the Iraq war, will command the flight in the lead aircraft.  His copilot will be First Lieutenant Trevor Tingle.  The Wing aircraft will be commanded by Captain Mark Sutton, a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan; his copilot will be Major Gary Wilds, also an Iraq War veteran.  The helicopters are part of the Marine Heavy Helicopter Training Squadron 302 from Marine Corps Air Station in New River, North Carolina.

Carrboro/ Chapel Hill Anarchist Book Fair
Radicals, book-lovers, and the simply curious will converge for a day of entertainment and education themed around anarchism-a vision of human life without authoritarian power or oppression on Saturday, November 13 from 1PM to 7PM. Check out a vast array of radical literature and learn about groups organizing locally as well! Fiction, poetry, popular history, 'zines, and more. Drawing in the Galleries at Ackland

Bring paper and dry media (crayon, pencils, etc.) and sketch amongst the works of art at Ackland Art Museum on Saturday, November 13 from 10AM to 12PM! All levels are welcome. This is free and open to all. Ackland also hosts Drawing for Kids at the same time, for youth ages 9 to 12. Registration is required for this program and costs $5 for non-members, free for members. Chapel Hill Comics: Where Comics & Rap Collide
Chapel Hill Comics is proud to present an amazing FREE concert on Saturday, November 13 at 8:00 PM - with two MCs who will blow your mind. Adam WarRock and Juan Huevos will take to the stage and rap about comics and everything else.  Adam WarRock works full-time as a hip hop emcee, having started from scratch and built his career completely independently. Kidzu hosts a monthly series of drop-in programs based on hands-on science education called SCIENCE ALIVE! The focus on Wednesday, November 17 from 4PM to 5PM, is on Natural Disasters. Kids will learn about "forces of nature" including tornados, hurricanes, and more. Get up close to a twister by a making a "Tornado in a Bottle" during this program. Tree Lighting - 09 -2Community Tree Lighting Ceremony: Join the Downtown Partnership in kicking off the holiday season with the lighting of the 22' tall Community Tree in the Memorial Garden of University Baptist Church on Sunday, November 28 at 6PM. Enjoy the caroling of the church choir and Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt will be our guest tree lighter. Don't forget your camera - children can meet Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus and have their pictures taken for free!  University Baptist Church is located at 100 S. The Chapel Hill -Carrboro Holiday Parade: Presented by The Chapel Hill Jaycees, will be held on Saturday, December 11,  from 10AM to 12PM. The parade starts at the Morehead Planetarium and winds the entire length of Franklin Street to Carrboro Town Hall. Applications for parade participants are still being accepted - until November 27th. Carolina Inn - Holiday Display 1Holiday Events at The Carolina Inn: The Carolina Inn is a must-see stop for everyone during the holidays. Holiday House Tour: The Preservation Society of Chapel Hill will have its annual Holiday House Tour in the Cameron-McCauley neighborhood, one of the oldest areas in the town and considered to be the birthplace of Chapel Hill on December 11 & 12 from 1PM to 5PM each day. Visitors will be able to tour inside and learn the history of some of the homes in the neighborhood. The tour includes 11 stops including ten historic homes and The Carolina Inn.
