Moving Screening at Internationalist Books

The Internationalist hosts weekly movie screenings - this week they'll be showing The Witness on Thursday, January 6  at 7PM. The Witness is an award-winning documentary about a man who feared and avoided animals for most of his life until a kitten inspired him to rescue abandoned animals and bring his message of compassion to the streets of New York. Hungry Heart of Gold Benefit Show at Local 506 

Local 506 is hosting 'Hungry Heart of Gold: Neil Young vs. Bruce Springsteen' benefit show for the Family Violence Prevention Center of Orange County on Friday, January 7 at 9PM. The New Year Brings New Classes & Events at Kidzu

Kidzu Children's Museum, Chapel Hill NCKidzu is featuring a new arts program called MIX-IT UP! Every Saturday, from 11AM to 12PM children will learn to mix paint, colors, materials, and ideas during this drop-in program. Free with admission. For all ages - but kids under 4 years old require adult supervision during the program. Ackland Art-ventues for Kids

Ackland Art-ventures for Kids is a series of engaging classes for 6-9 year olds taught by National Board Certified Art Teacher Tamela Davis and other educators. On Saturday, January 8 from 10:30AM to 12:00PM children will explore the exhibit - Tradition in Clay: Two Hundred Years of Classic North Carolina Pots - in the galleries and then go next door to a studio to practice the new ideas and techniques they saw as they create their own take-home treasures; faux clay pots! $15 for members, $25 non-members. Wachovia Tar Heel 10 Miler - Sign Up Now!

Now is the perfect time to start training for the 2011 Wachovia Tar Heel 10 Miler: North Carolina's Premier Running Experience.  On Saturday April 9, 2011, 4000 runners are expected to run in Endurance Magazine's landmark running event in Chapel Hill. Last year history was made when 2200 runners took to the streets of Chapel Hill and ran through downtown and historic neighborhoods ultimately finishing in UNC's Kenan Football Stadium.  The ten mile distance is a great way to challenge yourself if you're used to running 5k and 10k distances; or, if you're training for a late spring half- or full marathon! The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center has been selected by Endurance Magazine as their primary charity partner.
