Ackland Film Forum at Varsity Theatre Jackson Pollock Fim

A collaboration between the Ackland Art Museum and numerous departments at UNC present a series of films that explore topics that the Carolina community is talking about in exhibitions, courses, and campus-wide initiatives. Thursday, October 6: Who the #$&% is Jackson Pollock? (2006) director Harry Moses; and on Thursday, October 13: The Collector: Allan Stone's Life in Art (2007) director Olympia Stone. International Dance Performances at Memorial Hall

Carolina Performing Arts kicks off a weekend of dance today as Memorial Hall hosts Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan on Thursday, October 6 and Friday, October 7.  Steeped in tai chi, meditation, modern dance and ballet, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan features a rich repertoire rooted in Asian myths, folklore and aesthetics with a contemporary perspective. Followed by Eastman - Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui's production of "Babel (Words)" on Sunday, October 9 and Monday, October 10.  This dance performance  explores language and its relationship with nationhood, identity and religion. Carolina Football Home Game - Go Heels! UNC Football
Carolina takes on Louisville on Saturday, October 8 at 12PM. Football game days bring excitement and activity to downtown that everyone enjoys- even if you don't have tickets to the game! In Tar Heel Town everyone in the family will enjoy the Old Well Walk, the Bell Tower Climb, face painting, meeting Rameses, bounce houses, food, and more. FREE Music Lessons & Tutoring at Teen Center musical instruments

Street Scene Teen Center is now offering FREE music lessons for teens; taught by UNC students. Lessons are being offered for clarinet, guitar, piano, and saxophone on a first-come, first-served basis. Guitars and piano provided at the Teen Center; teens must have the other instruments. Teens may sign up for the classes at the Teen Center which is located 179 East Franklin Street; under the Post Office/Courthouse. Street Scene also offers free tutoring for middle-school and high-school students in all subjects. Tutoring is provided by UNC students; Monday - Friday from 3PM to 7PM. New FREE Night Parking Lot Opens Downtown RBC Night Parking Picture

The lower RBC Centura parking lot, located at 164 N. Rosemary Street, is now open for FREE night time parking between 6PM and 6AM. Also affectionately nicknamed the Sea Turtle parking lot because of Michael Brown's mural painted at the back of the lot. Through a partnership between RBC Centura, the Town of Chapel Hill, and the Downtown Partnership -- the bank is helping to make parking downtown even easier now by opening the lot at night to all. Coming soon are two more parking lots that will be open from 6PM to 6AM through this generous public/private partnership. Look for the special FREE NIGHT PARKING signs.
