North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival

NCCAF 2011

The 11th annual NC Comedy Arts Festival, held from February 2 to February 20, is the largest of its kind in the southern United States. Featuring sketch comedy, standup, improv, and film & video; the festival is hosted at seven venues in both Carrboro and Chapel Hill.  Acts from New York, LA, Chicago, DC, Boston, Philadelphia, and every city in between flock here to perform, network and develop as the next generation of comedy talent. Opening Reception at LIGHT Art+Design

Open Workshops at The ReCYCLEry

The ReCYCLEry is available every first Saturday from 11AM to 4PM for open workshop hours, and every Sunday from 12PM to 5PM.  Join them this Saturday, February 5 or Sunday, February 6 for lightly paced workshops, staffed by mechanics who will lead you in learning about your bike in an informal session.  Mechanics will not repair your bike for you, but will aid you in learning.  Everyone is welcome to bring their bike or work towards earning one of their own. Poetry Workshop at Ackland Art MuseumMonhegan

IFC Community House Open House

IFC LogoMany residents of Chapel Hill and Carrboro have never been inside Community House, so the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service (IFC) is opening it's doors and inviting everyone in to see the facility on Sunday, February 6 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM.  Present at the Open House will be IFC staff, volunteers, as well as some residents. IFC wants the community to fully understand why the IFC is striving to provide better accommodations for our homeless men, and to more fully appreciate why this move is essential for the men and for our community. Teen Center Art Project Has Open Slots

Until the end of April, Street Scene's Artist-in-Residency Peg Gignoux will be working with young artists -byTerrance Foushee, DJ Rahmer, and David Eisenband - to lead teens in creating a collaborative multi-media art project. In addition to a permanently displayed work of art, the teens will learn performance art and the project will be documented with photography, video and sound recordings done by the teens. Street Scene Teen Center Band PerformanceStreet Scene Teen Center may be one of Chapel Hill's best kept secrets...from adults! Located at 179 East Franklin Street, under the post office/courthouse - Street Scene has been open for teens for 25 years! You may have not known about it - but Chapel Hill teens have been hanging out under Franklin Street all this time. Street Scene offers teens (ages 12 to 18) a FREE place to hang out, play pool & video games, listen to live music performances, and connect with other teens. The Teen Center is open Monday-Friday after school from from 4PM to 7PM, and Friday & Saturday evenings from 7PM to 11PM. Home Front on the Hill: A Civil War Exhibit

UNC's Wilson Library is hosting Home Front on the Hill: Chapel Hill and the University during the Civil War, on view in the Melba Remig Saltarelli Exhibit Room of the Wilson Special Collections Library from Feb. 1 through May 8. The exhibit is free to the public and features about 160 items from Library collections. On April 12th -the 150th anniversary of the war's first military engagement, at Fort Sumter, S.C., in 1861-the Library will launch the website "The Civil War Day-by-Day."
