To continue in pre-Locally Grown interviews, here is Johnny Depp:
I remember seeing Benny & Joon as a kid in the early 90's watching Johnny Depp do his Buster Keaton routine thinking that physical comedy was the coolest thing ever. Of course, I had never heard of Buster Keaton and didn't get the dancing roll routine, but it worked just the same. Years have passed and we've seen Mr. Depp create some great characters including Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. I had the chance to ask him a few questions to promote this week's Locally Grown Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: 1; see what he had to say! - Bobby Funk - Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership
Downtown Partnership - What are the biggest changes artistically you've noticed in the time since "Pirates: 1" came out?
Johnny Depp - You'd never believe how your perspective of art changes once you've been made into a Video Game-Lego character. Other than that, it's hard to get cast in parts that don't have me wearing lots of dark eye makeup.
DP - What has been your most memorable film you've worked on and why?
JD - It's always been tricky to top being eaten by a bed on Elm St, but other that that I've always enjoyed working with Tim Burton.
DP - You've brought many memorable characters to life over the years, what character do you want to do next?
JD - It seems that the thing to do recently is to play a vampire, so that's what I'm doing for my next project with Tim [Burton]. I'm gonna play Barnabas Collins in a film called Dark Shadows.
DP - What is the most memorable thing you've done in Chapel Hill?
JD - I was out one night and I heard that Michael Jordan was hanging out, but it was before the days of Twitter so I couldn't catch him.
DP - What is your favorite Downtown business?
JD -The Varsity, did you catch me in Rango?
DP - Will you be attending this week's screening of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl?
JD - You'll just have to come and find out, I heard there was free popcorn....
