Lecture Series: Food in the South

The Center for the Study of the American South presents the first in the Hutchins Lecture Series on Thursday, September 8 at 4:30PMProfessor Alice Ammerman will explore the multiple roles of food in the lives of southerners, ranging from family, social connections, and celebrations to the foundations of a transitioning agricultural economy. Dining With FRANK Opens FRANK Gallery

The latest, unique show at FRANK opens on Friday, September 9 with a public reception from 6PM to 9PM. Dining with Frank includes artists' take on tableware, furniture and 2-D art all about food and dining. FRANK will also be holding two special events with local award-winning chefs Bill Smith of Crook's Corner on Monday, September 26 and Kevin Callaghan of ACME Restaurant on Thursday, October 6. Spelling Bee & Schoolhouse Jam at Nightlight Club  Spelling Bee

Jillian Lea & Sarah D's First & Maybe Last Ever Spelling Bee will be held on Friday, September 9 from 9PM to 11:30PM at Nightlight Club. Glory and prizes will be awarded to both winners and losers. Attendees do not have to compete in the Spelling Bee to enjoy the night's nostalgic activities. Onlookers are encouraged to support their spelling friends. Carolina Collects Exhibit at Ackland Art Museum Ackland - Carolina Collects Exhibit

Ackland hosts an opening reception on Friday, September 9 from 7PM to 9PM for their latest exhibit. Gathered from the private collections of more than 45 alumni of The University of North Carolina; Carolina Collects: 150 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art  brings together nearly 90 hidden treasures by some of the most renowned artists of the modern era. Carolina Football Home Game - Go Heels! Kenan Stadium

Carolina takes on Rutgers University on Saturday, September 10 at 12:30PM. Football game days bring excitement and activity to downtown that everyone enjoys- even if you don't have tickets to the game! In Tar Heel Town everyone in the family will enjoy the Old Well Walk, the Bell Tower Climb, face painting, meeting Rameses, bounce houses, food, and more. Reflection & Remembrance Service for Sept. 11th   University United Methodist Church
University United Methodist Church (150 E. Franklin Street) will hold a service of reflection and remembrance on the church's front lawn on Sunday, September 11 at 8:30AM. The hour-long service will feature moments of silence at 8:45 and 9:03 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The service will also feature time for prayer and reflection and a brass band. The sanctuary will be open for those wishing to spend personal time in remembrance. All are welcome.
