2nd Friday ArtWalk Logo  Celebrating 10 years, the 2nd Friday Artwalk continues to grow and draw our community into the rich arts & culture offerings throughout Chapel Hill and Carrboro! On Friday, October 12 from 6PM to 9PM, experience local arts in community venues. Many of the venues will have live music, good food & drinks, and other art related entertainment. ArtWalk venues include Ackland Museum Store,FRANK Gallery, Beehive Hair Salon, This & That, Vespertine, Focal Point Arts Gallery, and more! Free and open to all!    
Revolution | Revolución
The Ackland Film Forum will be showing Revolution | Revolución, (multiple directors, 2010) on Thursday, October 11 at 7:00PM at Varsity Theatre. Made to mark the centenary of the Mexican revolution, the surprisingly cohesive compilation film Revolución features shorts by 10 directors. Tickets: Students free with valid university or high school ID, $4 for all others.* Tickets are available at the Varsity Theatre. 
 Downtown Scavenger Hunt
Think you know downtown's history, legends, hidden secrets? Well, grab some friends and enter the 4th Downtown Scavenger Hunt - hosted by LOVE Chapel Hill on Saturday, October 13 from 2PM to 5PM. Teams of 2 to 5 people will race around campus & downtown and compete to solve clues and win some great prizes from downtown restaurants and shops! This event is FREE and open to all ages. Kids Rock! Concert
Kids Rock! is an outdoor rock concert for young children at Forrest Theatre, benefiting the Chapel Hill Cooperative Preschool on Sunday, October 14 from 2PM to 6PM. The whole community is welcome! The Atomic Rhythm All-Stars will be playing family-friendly, dance music. Tickets are $10 at the door. Kids 12 and under are FREE. Advance tickets are $7.  
Fridays on the Front Porch
Join the fun at The Carolina Inn on Friday, October 12 at 5PM for live music by Big Fat Gap, beer, and wine. Enjoy a grill menu prepared to order coupled with Chef's hand-selected weekly featured dish. Purchase food and drink.

Mondo Slide Show: Submit Pics!

FRANK Gallery's October exhibit FRANK IN FOCUS is celebrating YOU as a photographer! On Saturday, October 13 at 6PM on Wallace Plaza (atop the parking deck at 150 E Rosemary St) Share your work with the whole community at a giant public slide show! Bring a folding chair or blanket, get dinner to go from a downtown restaurant, enjoy live music from Alison Weiner and friends - and see your photographic work on the big screen! This will be a first come, first served arrangement. So email your work in advance to (15 to 3 images, include a title image with your name). Or bring a CD or thumbdrive. The show will begin as soon as it is dark enough to project and go until 10pm or until they run out of images! 
What are we craving right now? Fried Oysters with roasted garlic mayonnaise; West Indies Salad (blue crab & onions, cider vinegar, hard-boiled eggs and saltines); Hoppin' John; and as always The Crook's Hamburger (pimento cheese optional). Now who on earth would not choose that option? 
Japanese Market Opening
In conjunction with the Ackland Art Museum's "Season of Japan," the Ackland Museum Store is pleased to announce the opening of an in-store Japanese Market with a special reception on Friday, October 11 from 6:30PM to 8:30PM.  The Market will showcase Japanese products and crafts that quote tradition but with a contemporary flair- a wide variety of textiles, bamboo and wooden items, ceramics, paper items, metalwork, and more. Ackland Art Museum members receive a 10% discount on all Museum Store purchases, excluding works of art in the Store's retail gallery space.  
Ladies First! at the Underground
Chapel Hill Undergound is hosting a benefit for Compass Center for Women and Families on Friday, October 12, doors open at 8PM. All-female or female-fronted bands Lam!Lam!, Boykiller, Lazy Janes, and The Purchase will perform. Between bands Compass Center's favorite DJ, Sarah Honer, will spin her fabulous tunes. The benefit will charge a $10 cover and all the door proceeds go directly to Compass Center.

Late Night with Roy
Don't miss your first chance to see the 2012-13 University of North Carolina men's and women's basketball teams at Late Night with Roy 2012, on Friday, October 12 at the Dean E. Smith Center. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the event will kick off at 7:30 p.m.Admission is free with general admission seating.The event will be streamed online by ESPN3. Chapel Hill Transit will run from the Friday Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. for $5 (round-trip).

Morehead Planetarium's next Star Families program explores "Asian Skies" on Saturday, October 13 at 3:30PM. Listen to legends and myths about the night sky, based on stories told in Asian cultures for hundreds of years. Learn to identify the constellations and other sky objects about which those stories are told.Star Families is for ages 7-12 accompanied by parents or caregivers.

Compagnie Marie Chouinard
Three and half years after their stunning performance at Memorial Hall, Compagnie Marie Chouinard presents two of Chouinard's most highly regarded works, pairing The Rite of Spring (1993) with a new interpretation of Nijinsky's work in Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun (1994) on Sunday, October 14 at 7:30PM. 
 Drawing for Tweens at Ackland 
On Saturday, October 13 at 10:30AM this program invites 10- to 13-year-olds to look at selected works in the Ackland's galleries and identify techniques that the artists used to make them. A mix of drawing from works on display and creating one's own original works is offered in each session. Materials are provided. Free to members | $5 non-members. Registration is required and space is limited.
