Holiday shopping downtown just got easier!  
Parking is always FREE
on Sundays in downtown Chapel Hill, but this holiday season The Town of Chapel Hill will be offering downtown patrons and visitors FREE parking on Saturdays! Parking will be free at on-street meters and at the West Franklin Lot (formerly Lot 3) located at 415 W. Franklin St and the West Rosemary Lot (formerly Lot 4) located at 100 W. Rosemary St on Dec. 1,8, 15, & 22. 
Enjoy free parking for the holiday parade on Saturday, Dec. 8! Parking will be free until 5 p.m.* in the Wallace Parking Deck located at 150 E. Rosemary Street and at the Rosemary /Columbia Lot (formerly Lot 2) located at 100 E. Rosemary St. Happy Holidays!
Art Adventures For Kids
Designed for 6- to 9-year-olds, Art Adventures sessions provide kids with a guided view of art in the Ackland's galleries, followed by the opportunity to create take-home treasures in an adjacent art studio using newly-learned art-making techniques. Materials are provided. On Saturday, December 1 at 10:30AM and 1PM - kids will learn about traditional Japanese woodblock prints and make their own. Free for Members, $5 for non-members. It's a Wonderful Life: 
A Live Radio Play 

The treasured holiday film comes to life before your eyes on the stage at PlayMakers; November 28 - December 16. 1940s radio players perform the story as a Christmas Eve broadcast with music and sound effects - then they actually become the characters, stepping into the iconic scenes that have warmed hearts for generations.  

Handel's Messiah Sing
The Wesley Foundation on UNC's campus hosts the 47th annual open sing of Handel's Messiah; with an orchestra and soloists from the community and university on Saturday, December 1 at 7PM. Guest conductor is Christopher Hansen, Cedar Ridge High School Choral Director. The event is free and open to all. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own score as a limited number will be available.
My Little Pony Party!
On Saturday, December 1, from 5PM until 7PM, Chapel Hill Comics is throwing a My Little Pony shindig. For sale will be the new My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comic (you'll have your choice of lots of different covers), as well as My Little Pony figures, and more!  
The Gathering Church Holiday Concert
Downtown hosts an outdoor holiday concert on Saturday, December 15 at 6PM, around the community tree! FREE

Holiday Concert Series

Morehead Planetarium continues its Holiday Stars Concert Series this year, with unique musical performances on November 30, December 1, and December 8. Performances will be in the fulldome theater under a sky of stars! Bring your family and friends or plan a special date with your favorite person. Advance tickets are on sale now. Performers include UNC's Clef Hangers and Loreleis, The Sandbox Band, and John Brown Quintet. Visit 

The Twelve Days of Christmas 

Now in its fifteenth year, The Carolina Inn celebrates the Christmas season inspired by the traditional holiday song, The Twelve Days of Christmas. A vision of seasonal wonder will be displayed throughout the Inn including magnificently decorated trees, beautifully appointed holiday décor, and events to keep you and your little one's entertained. On Saturday, December  1 at 10AM- Ring in the holiday season with a special visit from Santa's Elf.  Kids of all ages will be treated to a reading of The Elf on the Shelf as well as the opportunity to write a letter to Mr. Santa Claus.  Holiday goodies and games will entertain all.  Limited Seating. Blanket Orange County Drive
The 9th annual drive to Blanket Orange County has a goal of collecting 300 blankets by Sunday, December 9! As of TODAY- 180 more blankets are still needed! Blankets are collected for the Inter-Faith Council for Social Services and other community organizations in need. If you'd like to help, please deliver new or gently used blankets (twin size preferred) to a variety of drop-off locations listed at

The annual Holiday Parade hits Franklin Street on Saturday, December 8 at 10AM -starting at Morehead Planetarium and proceeds all the way to Carrboro Town Hall!

Goodnight Carolina Signing

On Saturday, December 1 at 10:30AM, listen to a reading of "Goodnight Carolina" a book created by Chapel Hill locals Missy Julian Fox, Marie Myers Lloyd and Elaine O'Neil - at Kidzu Children's Museum. "Goodnight Carolina" is a delightful bedtime storybook and a lyrical love letter that captures the uniqueness of Chapel Hill, in a warm and playful manner. After the reading Missy, Marie and Elaine will help children make their own art to take home. Books can be purchased to have signed by the authors. No registration necessary. Event is free with admission or membership.  / 

Holiday Meals for Those in Need
Over the holiday season, please consider sharing a holiday meal with someone who might not otherwise get one. Only $25 helps the Inter-faith Council for Social Services offer a holiday meal to an entire family-a turkey or ham, stuffing, vegetables, bread & dessert. DONATE TODAY!
Cooking Class with Vimala
Vimala, of Vimala's Curryblossom Cafe, is hosting an Indian cooking class on Sunday, December 2 from 2PM to 5PM. Participants will explore all the elements of an Indian curry, including the roasting and grinding of fresh spices, herbs, and bringing it all together. Book Release: Food Lover's Guide
