Chapel Hill Tire Car Care Center Named Top Shop
Chapel Hill Tire Car Care Center, a locally-owned total car care center celebrating 60 years of servicing vehicles in the greater Chapel Hill area, was recently named Top Shop in North America by Tire Review Magazine. This is the sixth year the 112-year-old national magazine for independent tire businesses in the US and Canada has made this prestigious award. There are approximately 24,000 independent tire companies in North America. As Grand Prize Winner, Chapel Hill Tire Car Care Center will receive a sophisticated piece of tire-changing technology, a cash prize, tickets to the industry’s 2012 Global Tire Expo/SEMA Show, the cover story in the October issue of Tire Review Magazine and a Top Shop trophy.
According to Jim Smith, Editor of Tire Review Magazine and TireReview.com, the highly competitive award honors an outstanding tire company that offers exemplary customer service and retention, training and education, merchandising and promotion, professional standards and conduct, appearance, business management, community involvement, business growth, achievement and innovation. “Chapel Hill Tire Car Care Center gets it,” Smith said. “They know it’s not just about how well you can fix a car or how much know about a tire. That’s not hard to do. The hard thing is to create an atmosphere that encourages customers to engage and participate in creating a business that is meaningful to them. We’re recognizing the best of the best as a way of helping all of our readers understand there are lots of things you can do to differentiate yourself from big box stores. Chapel Hill Tire Car Care Center owner Marc Pons calls it being sustainable in every way. That’s what we’re honoring with this award.”
A nationally recognized and award-winning leader in environmental stewardship, Chapel Hill Tire Car Care Center is a standard-bearer in giving customers sustainable choices, including EFO (environmentally-friendly oil), lead-free tire weights, energy-efficient NitroFill nitrogen tire inflation system, carbon offsets on EFO oil changes to help reduce harmful greenhouse gases and a hybrid shuttle van. Two of the Green Plus-certified Center’s four automotive service centers are green, constructed from energy-efficient, sustainable materials including solar panels on the Carrboro Center and green roof technology on the Durham Center. After more than a year of exacting training and arduous certification, the company became the first Certified Independent Hybrid Repair Center in the Triangle.
