Parking is always FREE
on Sundays in downtown Chapel Hill, but this holiday season The Town of Chapel Hill will be offering downtown patrons and visitors FREE parking on Saturdays! Parking will be free at on-street meters and at the West Franklin Lot (formerly Lot 3) located at 415 W. Franklin St and the West Rosemary Lot (formerly Lot 4) located at 100 W. Rosemary St on Dec. 1,8, 15, & 22. 
Enjoy free parking for the holiday parade on Saturday, Dec. 8! Parking will be free until 5 p.m.* in the Wallace Parking Deck located at 150 E. Rosemary Street and at the Rosemary /Columbia Lot (formerly Lot 2) located at 100 E. Rosemary St. Happy Holidays!

Dream Up Downtown Walk
TONIGHT - Thursday, December 6 at 6PM - One-Stop Living: Our downtown is increasingly desirable for people who want to live in an urban environment. Join us for a walk where we'll explore a spectrum of businesses that make it possible to truly live & work downtown and have your needs met; while also discussing the need for affordable housing. Host is Crystal Fisher from Community Home Trust.  The walks are meant to encourage discussion about and exploration of downtown; based on the principles of urban activist Jane Jacobs. Free. 
St. Nick Salon at FRANK Gallery
TODAY-Thursday, December 6 at 6PM artists of FRANK will be hosting a casual gathering and all are welcome! FRANK has partnered with NC Cancer Hospital Expressive Arts Program to help stock the Art Cart used in the Onology Patient and Family Resource Center by donating new or gently used art supplies throughout the month of December. Downtown Holiday Parade
Get ready to see the cutest wrapped gifts you've ever imagined walking down the streets on Saturday, December 8 from 10AM to 12PM for the annual Chapel Hill-Carrboro Holiday Parade. The parade starts at the Morehead Planetarium and runs the entire length of Franklin Street and down Main Street in Carrboro! Stake out your curbside spot and enjoy a great community tradition!

UNC Student Art Sale

The 6th Annual Student Holiday Print and Art Sale will be held on Friday, December 7 at 10AM to 9PM at the John C. Henry Print Studio, Room 301 of the Hanes Arts Center (Columbia Street, next door to the Ackland Museum). This once a year chance to buy original student art is perfect timing for holiday shopping! Morehead Planetarium continues its Holiday Stars Concert Series with a unique musical performance on Saturday, December 8 from The Sandbox Band.  Performance will be in the fulldome theater under a sky of stars! Advance tickets are on sale now at

Jazz for the Holidays Concert

Get into the holiday swing on Friday, December 7 at 8PM with the upbeat sounds of North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra, celebrating its 20th anniversary and offering a special selection of holiday favorites and classic tunes sure to brighten the holidays. Joining the ensemble is the world-renowned jazz guitarist and singer John Pizzarelli, called "madly creative" by the Los Angeles Times. Tickets and more info:  
Downtown Holiday House Tour
Every year the Preservation Society of Chapel Hill gives us a chance to get inside  and experience our town's historic homes - each with a fascinating story to tell. This year's tour, December 8 & 9 from 1PM to 5PM, explores the Franklin -Rosemary District. Tickets $25 in advance, $30 weekend of the event.   
Carolina Christmas at UUMC
At 7PM on Sunday, December 9, University United Methodist Church (150 E. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill) hosts an Advent Lessons and Carols worship service. The UNC Women's Glee Club, Tarpeggios, Vision and the praise bands from the UNC Wesley Campus Ministry and Presbyterian Campus Ministry will lead the music for this service. The UNC Wesley Campus Ministry, Presbyterian Campus Ministry and Cooperative Baptist Fellowship will lead the traditional service. Hot chocolate will be served, and a free will offering will be collected for missions. All are welcome. 
Opening Reception: Metal 2012

Light Art+Design invites all to an opening reception on Friday, December 7 at 6PM. Featuring recent metal work by: Eleanor Annand, Katherine Armacost, Angela Bubash, Ashley Buchanan,  Kat Cole, Beatrice Coron, Lynda Curry, Robert Ebendorf, and many more. The exhibit runs December 7 to January 26.

 Join us for a FREE Outdoor Holiday Concert on Saturday, December 15 at 6PM with the Gathering Church. They'll perform modern takes on traditional holiday classics. 
Artsy Gifts Abound at Ackland

Now until the end of the year the Ackland Museum Store has extended holiday shopping hours - even open on Christmas Eve so you can find a uniquely artsy gift for that special someone on your list! In conjunction with the Ackland's "Season of Japan," the Ackland Museum Store is featuring an in-store Japanese Market showcasing Japanese products and crafts that quote tradition with a contemporary flair. 

Sacrificial Poets Voicebox Slam
Come out for the last youth slam of 2012 on Wednesday, December 12 from 6:30PM to 8:30PM at Street Scene Teen Center! Voicebox Slam Series is a monthly slam competition where youth participants have the opportunity to earn a spot in the annual Sacrificial Poets Grand Slam Finals, and be chosen as one of six young poets that will attend the Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam in July. Holiday Blood Drive on Campus
The 14th annual Carolina Blood Drive will be on Tuesday, December 11 from 7:30AM to 1PM at Fetzer Gym on the UNC campus. Everyone is welcome; you can make an appointment at  or just walk-in.
