Tavern Talks with Chapel Hill 2020
The Chapel Hill community is creating Chapel Hill 2020 - an imaginative and innovative process that will help plan our community's future. All are invited to a series of talks at downtown businesses to be a part of the conversation. Chapel Hill Comics is hosting a launch party for Adventure Time featuring tasty snacks, a costume contest and an EXCLUSIVE CHAPEL HILL COMICS COVER to Adventure Time #1 on Saturday, February 18, from 4PM until 7PM. Star Families Show at Planetarium
Explore the night sky as a family on Saturday, February 18 from 9:30AM to 10:30AM. Based on the same themes as Starry Nights, this engaging program series is designed for learners ages 7-12 and their families. In honor of African American history month, this program focuses on night sky myths and legends told in African cultures. Weekend Exhibit Tours at Ackland
Ackland Art Museum is offering two tours this weekend of the current exhibit the Spectacular of Vernacular. On Saturday, 18 February, 2PM: "Paul Harding's Tinkers and The Spectacular of Vernacular".This tour discusses Paul Harding's book Tinkers-a dying man's meditation on love, loss, illness, faith, and the beauty of nature-as it relates to the current exhibition. On Sunday, 19 February, at 2PM: "The Gendering of the Vernacular". Rachel Fesperman, an Ackland Student Guide, will discuss how works in the exhibition analyze and conflate socially-prescribed gender norms. Tours FREE and open to the public. Historical Society Lecture
The Chapel Hill Historical Society presents an afternoon with Jerry Cotten, former curator of the UNC-Chapel Hill's Photographic Archives in the North Carolina Collection. Cotten will speak on "Bayard Wootten, North Carolina Camera Artist" on Sunday, February 19 at 3PM at their offices at 523 East Franklin Street. The event is free and open to the public. Black History Film Series 
The Chapel Hill Preservation Society will be showing "Judgment Day: 1831-1865" on Wednesday, February 22 from 12PM to 1:30PM. The film series examines the economic and intellectual foundations of slavery in America and the global economy that prospered from it. Executive Director Ernest Dollar will introduce this film with commentary on the legacy of slavery in Chapel Hill and the Preservation Society's efforts to preserve these places and stories.
