Urban Sketchers Reception
From commuters on a packed rush-hour subway to coffee drinkers at sidewalk cafes, glimpses of everyday city life are captured by members of Urban Sketchers , a non-profit organization of artist-correspondents who share a passion for drawing in cities worldwide. Showcasing ninety art works by international contributors, the Ackland Museum Store's exhibition, opening TODAY - Thursday, August 16 from 6:30PM to 8:30PM, helps fulfill Urban Sketchers' aim of "showing the world, one drawing at a time." City of Frogs: Summer Show
The 13th annual giant puppet pageant - City of Frogs - is the summer event for all ages in Forest Theatre. Brought to us by Paperhand Puppet Intervention. The show includes masks, stilt walkers, shadow puppets, and live music. Running August 10 through September 9, every weekend with evening and matinee shows. $12, $8 kids - suggested donation. Painting & Storytime at Kidzu
On Friday, August 17 at 3:30PM to 5:30PM Kidzu Children's Museum hosts a new monthly art time geared to kids 5-8 years. Each month they will feature different ways to get paint on paper. Projects will be supervised by a staff member but painting is free-form and usually takes about 15 minutes to complete. On Sunday, August 19 at 4PM: Arabic-English Storytime with Craft. Sundays are always free at Kidzu (1PM to 5PM) thanks to Durham Regional Hospital.
On Wednesday, August 22 at 10AM have a Messy Morning in the Art Room! This monthly art time is for the youngest visitors (ages 2-5). Each month different materials and supplies are offered to create fun and messy art. www.kidzuchildrensmuseum.org  
 
 
 

Ironing Board Sam at Crunkleton

TODAY -Thursday, August 16 at 7:30PM classic blues artist Samuel Moore will be playing at The Crunkleton. Dubbed Ironing Board Sam for his unique invention of the "button board," a homemade portable keyboard which he mounted to an ironing board that simulated the Hammond B3 organ sound. Ironing Board Sam relocated to Chapel Hill in 2010 following Hurricane Katrina with the help of www.MusicMaker.org and The Crunkleton is honored to welcome such a talented and bona fide musician every Thursday from 7:30-10:00 pm. www.thecrunkleton.com 
 
 
 
Yoga in the Galleries
Take a break from your week and explore the world of yoga in the beautiful, cool galleries of the Ackland on Tuesday, August 21 from 12PM to 1PM! This hour-long session, offered by registered yoga teacher Joanne Marshall, allows you to practice a series of gentle yoga poses inspired by the art in the gallery. Beginners are welcome. Yoga mats are provided. Wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to stretch.
