Urban Sketchers Exhibit
From commuters on a packed rush-hour subway to coffee drinkers at sidewalk cafes, glimpses of everyday city life are captured by members of Urban Sketchers , a non-profit organization of artist-correspondents who share a passion for drawing in cities worldwide. Showcasing ninety art works by international contributors, the Ackland Museum Store's exhibition helps fulfill Urban Sketchers' aim of "showing the world, one drawing at a time." The 13th annual giant puppet pageant - City of Frogs - is the summer event for all ages in Forest Theatre. Brought to us by Paperhand Puppet Intervention. Friends of the Downtown Meeting
On the last Thursday of every month  - local downtown booster group Friends of the The Downtown gather to hear a speaker talk about a downtown topic at the Franklin Hotel. On Thursday, August 30 at 10AM come hear UNC's new Director of Athletics - Bubba Cunningham.  He will offer his thoughts on the shared objectives of his department (which includes football and 27 other sports programs) and downtown Chapel Hill.  Rick Steinbacher, UNC associate athletic director, will join Bubba and may have several surprises to share.  Meetings are free and open to the public, with parking available in the lot behind the Franklin Hotel (on the side by the hotel) and also in the hotel's gated lots as available.
