The Ackland Art Museum holds an outstanding collection of Asian art-one of the most distinguished in the Southeastern United States. This fall,  A SEASON OF JAPAN celebrates myriad aspects of Japanese art and culture through ten exhibitions and installations.

: has opened their office at 179 East Franklin Street, in Street Scene Teen Center. Sacrificial Poets is North Carolina's premier youth poetry organization, and the first internationally competing youth performance poetry team in the state. Their mission is to inspire, foster, and promote artistic expression, personal growth, and social justice for youth in our collective communities through the use of the spoken and written word.

Healthy Smiles! Storytime at Kidzu
Southern Village Pediatric Dentistry hosts a special storytime on Tuesday, September 4 at 10:15AM. An interactive story-time geared toward "Growing Healthy Smiles!", the staff will read dental related stories, answer any questions parents have about taking care of their teeth, and use a puppet to demonstrate proper brushing techniques. Each child will get a chance to practice their brushing skills with a puppet, and will take home a "dental goodie bag." Program is free with admission.  
City of Frogs: Summer Show
The 13th annual giant puppet pageant - City of Frogs - is the summer event for all ages in Forest Theatre. Brought to us by Paperhand Puppet Intervention. The show includes masks, stilt walkers, shadow puppets, and live music. Running through September 9, every weekend with evening and matinee shows. $12, $8 kids - suggested donation. CEF: Community Empowerment Fund is holding an Advocate Training! Learn everything you need to know to start working one-on-one with members of the community dedicated to their own success. CEF is not a charity - it's a community approach to empowering individuals. Trainings on September 4 and September 11, 6PM to 8PM in the Campus Y, Room 207. CEF offers savings opportunities, micro-loans, financial education, and one-on-one support to people who are homeless, unemployed, or under employed. 

IN FOCUS, is a two month-long, town-wide festival of photography. In addition to an exhibit by eleven diverse fine-art photographers, there will be panel discussions, exhibitions, lectures, an outdoor slide show, an area-wide photo scavenger hunt, and much more.
