The Haw River Rounders are playing at Vimala's Curryblossom Cafe on Saturday, January 26 at 9:30PM so bring your dancin' shoes and plan on a raucous good time! 13th Annual Comedy Festival
The North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival produced by the DSI Comedy Theater in Carrboro is the largest comedy festival in the southern U.S. and features sketch comedy, standup and improv. The 13th annual festival is Jan 30-Feb 17 and features acts from all over North America performing in Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Durham venues. FRANK Featured Artist Talk
FRANK member artist Nerys Levy won a WUNC Radio prize to go "anywhere" and chose to visit Russia in September 2012 when she took the Uniworld river trip on 'The Highway of the Tsars"- from Moscow to St Petersburg. TODAY- Thursday January 24 from 6PM to 8PM  she'll be talking about her works in this exhibition that were mostly done on site, from the boat -the MV River Victoria" or derived from on-site sketches. Shape Our Town's Future NOW
Join us at "Sketching Chapel Hill," a series of free informational sessions on Saturday, January 26 from 8:30AM to 4PM, that will be idea-inspiring, conversation-sparking and thought-provoking. Sessions will be held throughout the day in the Council Chamber of Town Hall, 405 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., "Sketching" is an education program of DESIGN Chapel Hill 2020, the title given to the implementation phase of the Chapel Hill 2020 comprehensive plan.  This month's "Sketching Chapel Hill" explores civic education in such areas as designing public spaces, zoning rules, transportation system, landscape design, and more. "Sketching" participants may come for all sessions or drop in for topics of interest. Songwriter Workshop at Teen Center
On Saturday, January 26 at 6PM author of the book "Hitless Wonder", Coastal Carolina Creative Writing Instructor, Joe Oestreich will be at Street Scene Teen Center, hosted by The Emerging Artist Series and Youth Community Project of Chapel Hill/Carrboro. His talk is open to the public (teens and adults!) and will discuss his experience with his High School Band that is still together now that he is pushing 40. From 8PM to 10PM there will be an "open mic" for teen singer/songwriters. Workshop participants will be given priority on the sign-up for open mic performances.

A Rite: Combining Dance & Theater
January 25 & 26 at 8PM: A Rite is a full-length collaborative work commissioned by Carolina Performing Arts that combines choreography from the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company with the ensemble-based theater work of SITI Company and Anne Bogart. This world premiere presents a deconstruction of the original score of The Rite of Spring, giving voice to author Jonah Lehrer's claim that a central tenet of Stravinsky's work is the realization that "the engine of music is conflict, not consonance." Bringing together these influential artists for the first time, this collaboration is a daring combination of original work from two of the most accomplished figures in the world of dance and theater. Walk This Way! Cemetary Tour
The dead come to life on the Chapel Hill Preservation Society's walking tour of the Old Chapel Hill Cemetery on Sunday, January 27 from 2PM to 3PM. Learn about the cemetery's history and those who are buried there.
