TRU Deli + Wine: Review by Guest Blogger Brian
TRU Deli + Wine is an up and coming hot spot for casual dining and drinking. A build your own sandwich restaurant by day and wine (as well as beer and liquor) bar by night, TRU is the ultimate hangout spot for mature undergraduates, young professionals, and UNC faculty alike. TRU is known for its contemporary yet simplistic interior design which incorporates large Northern Virginia Walnut table/bench tops with steel legs to create a vogue ambiance reminiscent of the West coast.
Likewise, this one of a kind dual threat location is popular for its outdoor seating and terrace areas, which are perfect for larger events or just a day to day study atmosphere. Opening just over one year ago, twin brothers and UNC Alum Dwight and Derek Debree, wanted to create an aesthetically pleasing design, where you could find the best sandwich in town at reasonable prices. Though their primary business endeavor is a joint computer software marketing company, the two have a special place in their heart for a former 112 Henderson St. restaurant; Lucy’s. One may go as far as to say that this was a sentimental business venture for the pair.
Dwight and Derek have succeeded in creating a stunning physical space, and an ingenious business model incorporating Apple app,Square, for checkout purposes. Moreover, they too have certainly delivered an air of class to the East side of Franklin St., otherwise crowded with a mass of college oriented bars and eateries. Whether it’s the cashless operation and Ipad points of service, delicious sandwiches, or nightly drink specials that catch your interest, TRU is truly a unique place, and will be a Chapel Hill mainstay for years to come.
