The Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership participates in and sponsors the Good Neighbor Initiative at the beginning of every UNC fall semester. Sponsoring partners include the Chapel Hill Police Department, the Office of Student Affairs, UNC Local Relations Office, the UNC Student Government Association & Carolina Union Activities Board, and Empowerment Inc.
To participate or for more information please contact:

or call 919-843-5827.
The goal of the Good Neighbor Initiative is to encourage students, living in neighborhoods that surround the downtown, to meet their neighbors and work together to make neighborhoods a place of pride and safety. Students and year-round residents are given information concerning area services, garbage collection and recycling, local ordinances, alcohol laws and safety information during a

neighborhood walk-around.

On Thursday, September 12, from 5PM to 9PM, we will hold a neighborhood block party with up to 500 downtown residents at the Hargraves Community Center at 216 N. Roberson Street. The event involves a short neighborhood walk followed by a large community celebration with food, music, and games - free and open to all downtown residents.

How Businesses Can Participate:
  • Financially support and sponsor specific aspects of the Block Party or make a general donation
  • Contribute a gift certificate or an item for the Block Party raffle.
Benefits to Participating Businesses:
  • Sponsors will be recognized at the event, as well as in other promotional media
  • Businesses that provide financial sponsorship or donate gift certificates of at least $25 in value are welcome to come set up at the event and have a booth, put up promotional material, and hand out coupons, menus, and other items.
  • You will reach up to 500 downtown residents, many of whom will be new residents and potential future patrons.
  • All donations are tax-deductible.
