Welcome Back UNC Students!  Fall semester classes start on Tuesday, August 19 and Carolina students have started moving back to town. Downtown Chapel Hill is bustling with activity as students and their families get ready for the new school year - and we are happy to have them back!

Artist Talk at FRANK
Thursday, August 14 from 6 pm to 8 pm: Featured artist Mary Lamb will be giving a gallery talk about her work that is on exhibit for the TREE: Witness to Life show currently at FRANK. This exhibition examines the multi-dimensional importance of the tree to all living forms on the planet--- from its aesthetic value as an artistic construction to its functional value in supporting and enhancing human life. www.frankisart.com

New Show at LIGHT

Friday, August 15 from 6 pm to 9 pm: LIGHT hosts an opening reception for a new show featuring new work from Katherine Armacost with Peg Gignoux as well as new ceramic and sculptural work from Mark Hewitt, Ibrahim Said, Tom Spleth, Justin Turcotte, and Yun-Dong Nam. Paperhand Puppet Intervention Show

The Downtown Partnership and the Office of New Student & Carolina Parent Programs at UNC have partnered to host The Feel of Franklin Street during the Week of Welcome (WOW), August 15 to August 24, 2014. WOW is an annual celebration that takes place at the beginning of the fall semester for new students and their families as they arrive to UNC and Chapel Hill. The Feel of Franklin Street is a week-long promotion that brings students and families into participating downtown businesses to receive free or exceptionally reduced priced menu items and merchandise.

West End Run Club Welcomes All
Starts Tuesday, August 19 at 6 pm: DSI Comedy and Franklin Street Yoga Center have teamed up to create the West End Run Club, offering an excellent opportunity to meet local runners and take a leisurely run at a more conversational pace for free. All abilities are welcome, and runners meet at DSI Comedy.
