Outdoor Holiday Concert

Saturday, Dec 5 | 6 pm

Enjoy a festive outdoor concert of holiday music performed by local musicians from the Gathering Church. They'll perform songs from their album Christmas Nights. The concert will be in the Memorial Garden at University Baptist Church; 100 S. Columbia Street. Free. Bring a chair, a blanket, and get snuggly around the tree!

The Longest Night: A Winter's Tale

Morehead Planetarium hosts The Longest Night: A Winter's Tale, a one-of-a-kind fulldome planetarium show that captures its audience with a timeless fable of courage, generosity and renewal. The story follows a young girl born into a family of nomadic storytellers, embarking on a simple quest that leads her to a dragon's nest. Morehead collaborated with Paperhand Puppet Intervention to develop the story and visuals of "The Longest Night."

Santa is coming to The Carolina Inn! This festive Carolina Inn event will undoubtedly usher in the Christmas magic for young and old alike. Magicians and face painters will be on hand to entertain everyone. Each child is welcome to sit on Santa’s lap and share their Christmas wish list and leave with a holiday treat. New Year's Fitness Challenge at CHT

Chapel Hill Training is looking for local companies and businesses to participate in a New Year's Fitness Challenge to promote health and wellness. It will be a 2-month long event to lose weight, improve body composition, get healthier, and start the new year off on the right foot! Businesses can create teams of 2-5 people in order to take part. Winter Stories for Children of All Ages

Wilson Library on UNC's campus hosts tales and music from around the world with Brian Sturm, associate professor at the UNC School of Information and Library Science, plus a merry band of student storytellers and musicians. Ukulele Orchestra Show

East Chapel Hill High School Ukulele Orchestra is a collection of zany yet talented students who play pop, country, rock, folk, and experimental music together through singing, stomping, and strumming the ukulele. Focusing on harmonizing and adding new twists to well-known songs. Their holiday show will be at Local 506.

The Varsity Theatre is showing the heart-warming It's a Wonderful Life movie this holiday season. Featuring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed and an angel who helps a compassionate but despairingly frustrated businessman by showing what life would have been like if he never existed.

Chapel Hill-Carrboro Holiday Parade

Saturday, Dec 12 | 10am-noon

Presented by The Jaycees, the parade starts at the Morehead Planetarium at 250 East Franklin Street and runs the entire length of Franklin Street to Carrboro Town Hall. Stake out your curbside spot and enjoy a great community tradition!

Free Weekend Public Parking

Shop local and shop downtown Chapel Hill for the holidays! The Town of Chapel Hill's parking specials begin for Thanksgiving, with metered parking and Town-owned lots being free on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 26-27.  Free parking continues throughout December during Saturday daytimes at all Town-owned parking lots and metered parking.  After 5 p.m. normal rates will be charged.  Public parking is always free on Sundays! Visit for a map and list of downtown parking options.
