Eat, Drink, and Shop Local!

The weekend’s water crisis had many impacts on our community, including our local businesses taking a heavy financial hit on a weekend that had promised to be profitable.

Chapel Hill is a special place; we have a shared community value of supporting local businesses. We embrace the buy local concept because it’s more than just keeping taxes in our county; it’s taking care of each other. Small business owners and their employees are the very fabric of our downtown and neighborhoods.

Now that the water has been restored to normal- our businesses are ready for you to eat, drink, and shop locally!

So this week let’s all pledge to #MeetDowntown and:

  • Cheer on the UNC Women's Basketball team at Carmichael Arena on Thursday, February 9 at 5:30 pm as they take on Boston College. But first, stop by one of our Carolina fan gear shops on Franklin Street this week because we all know that true Tar Heel fans can never have enough gear to show our spirit!
  • Cheer on the UNC Men’s Basketball team as they take on Duke on Thursday, Feb 9 at 8 pm. They are playing in Durham; so come watch the game at a downtown bar or restaurant.
  • Make a date with that special someone this weekend, don’t wait for Valentine’s Day. Make it a weekend of indulgent food at one of our 90 food establishments, catch a show at DSI Comedy Theater or Local 506, and enjoy drinks at The Crunkleton , Imbibe, or West End Wine Bar.
  • Experience SHIMMER: The Art of Light on Friday, Feb 10 from 6-10pm; a free art event with 20+ light installations, projections, and performances outdoors – all downtown.
  • Celebrate with the Carolina Brewery on their 22nd anniversary! They'll be producing new beers, giving away free pint glasses, and will have drink specials.
  • Go ArtWalking and ArtShopping on the 2nd Friday ArtWalk on Friday, February 10 from 6-9 pm. Stroll to the 18 venues, stopping for dinner and drinks while you shop for gifts for that special Valentine.
  • Enjoy a staycation in an Orange County hotel and revel in that fabulous hotel water pressure! Book a hotel stay at
