Take Me Out To the Ballgame(s): UNC Softball & Baseball
In 2002, the UNC softball team began play at its new home, the Anderson Softball Stadium. The lighted facility, which measures 200 feet to all fields seats 500, and includes state-of-the-art fencing, a new scoreboard, bullpens and batting cages, as well as a separate practice/warm-up field. The complex is located off of Raleigh Road (Highway 54) behind the General Administration building. (via goheels.com)
Admission is free to softball games. In addition to an action-packed game, fans can participate in giveaways, trivia, and may even be asked to be a guest announcer! Anderson Stadium offers great concession deals and the cozy feel of the stadium lets fans be a part of all the action.
UNC's baseball team plays at Boshamer Stadium which can seat 4100 fans, and accommodate overflow up to 5000. Fans enter through the Steinbrenner Family Courtyard at the front gate. George Steinbrenner, former owner of the New York Yankees, made this donation when his granddaughter was a student at UNC. In addition to seating, there are several picnic tables throughout the park. There are more than 30 flat screen televisions for game viewing when visiting the concessions. And keep an eye out for Remington, the Diamond Tar Heels mascot golden retriever who does an excellent job of delivering fresh balls to the home plate umpire!
There is a lot of history at Boshamer. This has been the site of 4 regional tournaments and 3 super regionals since its renovation in 2009. Four Tar Heel graduates who numbers are retired are honored on the 1st base side building: Dave Lemonds, BJ Surhoff, Andrew Miller, and Dustin Ackley.
UNC baseball and softball is a bargain, it’s family-friendly, and it’s quality sports action. That adds up to a can’t-miss experience! See the schedules and get tickets (for baseball) at www.goheels.com.
