New Exhibit at the Horace Williams House! The July art exhibition at the Horace Williams House: "Through the Ground Glass"; Wet-Plate Collodion Photography by C. Christopher Morgan. Morgan presents a collection of modern wet-plate collodion images. The collection showcases the artist's ability to capture the essence of his subjects using the historic process. UNC's Wilson Library hosts exhibit; "Satan in a Bottle: A History of the Production and Control of Alcoholic Beverages in North Carolina" from June 16 to August 31.
The fight for prohibition is one of several topics examined in the exhibition. Other topics include alcohol's celebratory use, its use in home remedies and patent medicines, and the countless personal tragedies caused by its abuse. Lower Ninth Ward, New Orleans : Photography Exhibit
Photographer John Rosenthal's exhibit Lower Ninth Ward, New Orleans is on display at the Historic Love House and Hutchins Forum on Franklin Street. Rosenthal visited the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans a year and a half after hurricane Katrina hit to photograph the aftermath. The photos will be on display from June 5 until August 1. While you are there, purchase a copy of the special Hurricane Katrina anniversary issue of Southern Cultures. The Love House is located at 410 East Franklin Street. "KidZoom: The Power of Creativity" at Kidzu Children’s Musuem!
Children will be inspired to exercise creativity in all areas of life and to imagine what the future can hold for their own community. "KidZoom" will feature three primary creation zones, all powered by children's imaginations: "Green Thumb" Garden-to-Table Market, "Build-A-Dream" Construction Zone, "Kidoodle Moodle" Art Studio!!
Also featuring an updated Tot Spot, a cozy Book Nook and a Caregiver Resource Area. KidZoom will be bilingual with exhibit text in both English and Spanish.
Fantastic creations by local artists, craftspeople, authors and others will set the scene for this dynamic, colorful exhibit designed to harness our greatest natural resource, children's creative energy. Over a dozen local artists have been preparing works of art for KidZoom, including muralist Michael Brown, painter Keith Norval, pop-up book artist Pam Pease, illustrator Josh Taylor, textile artist Elaine O'Neil and many others.
