Accidental Alarm Program Coming in 2014

Do you have an alarm system in your home or business? Are you planning on installing one? The Town will roll out the Chapel Hill Accidental Alarm Program (CHAAP) to decrease the number of accidental alarms (or false alarms) and manage the Town's safety resources wisely. Beginning in early 2014, everyone operating an alarm system inside Town limits will be required to register their alarm system and obtain a permit. Registrations are not being accepted at this time. We will bring you more information as it becomes available.  If you have questions or concerns contact Police Lt. Mitch McKinney at 919-968-2764 or visit

Smoke-Free Public Places in Orange County

In 2013 Orange County went smoke free in all public places. Following the 2010 ordinance that made restaurants and bars smoke-free, this rule broadens what was already in effect to include places such as government grounds, parks, recreational facilities and any enclosed facility where the public is invited such as lobbies and other common areas. We have available FREE window stickers for all businesses and organizations at our office. For complete information please visit
