Free Trainings for Downtown Businesses
Shoplifting Reduction, Business Safety Awareness
The Chapel Hill Police Department is offering these free trainings for all downtown businesses. They can be done at your business when it is convenient for staff.
  • Shoplifting Reduction Training will assist staff in understanding general shoplifting-prevention techniques, how to spot a potential shoplifter, and how to handle incidents.
  • Business Safety Awareness will help you examine current procedures for employee safety at opening & closing times, handling money & after-hours bank drops, and assess the physical surroundings of your business like lighting and exits.
If you'd like to schedule a training please contact Sgt. Nate Chambers with the Chapel Hill Police Department; at or 919-968-2760.
Free Training for Servers/Sellers of Alcohol
The Downtown Partnership, Chapel Hill Police Department, and NC ABC Commission have collaborated to offer a comprehensive free training for all servers and sellers of alcohol. This training will be conducted by the NC ABC Commission and the DMV License and Theft Bureau to help ABC retailers be better prepared to reduce underage drinking.
