Future Land Use Map Process

From the Town of Chapel Hill:

The Town is embarking on a journey to chart the next course; to think about the future of Chapel Hill.  Charting Our Future is a unique Town Project to hone the Future Land Use Map in the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, Chapel Hill 2020, and rewrite the Town’s Land Use Management Ordinance (LUMO).   The Charter for this Project establishes a goal to improve the Land Use Management Ordinance and associated land use tools and processes so that they are more predictable, functional, and intentional.

The first phase of the Charting Our Future Project is refining the Town’s Future Land Use Map, which is called the Land Use Plan in Chapel Hill 2020.  The Town is kicking off this refinement effort on May 10, 2018 at 5:30 PM at The Franklin Hotel, and this event will be the first opportunity for community members to participate in this Project.
Please see this flyer for more information.  The Town hopes to complete this refinement effort by the end of the year, when the Town Council adopts a new Future Land Use Map as an amendment to Chapel Hill 2020.

From May through the end of the year, there will be opportunities for community input, both on-line and in person.  The online opportunities will include a Project webpage at, which will be live on May 10.  Until May 10, Project information is available on the Town's Website.  In person opportunities will be announced on the Project website; so please check the website often and sign up to receive Project updates after May 10th.
